Photography

Despite the great beauty of the Nature Reserve of Hornstrandir in Iceland, it is seldomly visited by photography enthusiasts due to its remote location. The fjords, bays, saga and wildlife of the area offers all people with a good eye for photography, the perfect opportunity to catch great images that are hard to get elsewhere and not many people have seen.

All photographers know the hazzle of hauling heavy equipment around. That´s why it´s so comfortable to have the yacht Aurora as mothership to travel between the most scenic spots of Hornstrandir and only take on shore what is needed for that day.

Joining us on these trips, is the great photographer Thorsten Henn who will take care that nothing is missed and teach you few tricks of the trade. Thorsten is a great nature lover, came to Iceland from Germany ten years ago to take some photos and hasn´t returned yet.

We don't have a specific photography trip in our schedule for 2009 but please contact us and we'll try to fit in a trip.

Trip itinerary

A normal day on our photography trips, begin with a healthy breakfast around 9:00 in the morning and then we prepare lunch for the day. When everybody are ready, we go ashore with the dinghy and spend the day shooting, exploring the nature and history of the area. We usually go back onboard Aurora when the light turns dull or whenever you feel like it! At least we try to go onboard for some delicious dinner and maybe try some fishing. After dinner you are free to go back onshore to make the best of the bright nights in Iceland or you can take one of the kayaks onboard for a spin with the crew to shoot from a different angle, or go for an easy walk onshore before going to bed. It´s hard to give a day by day itinerary since we try to be very flexible where we go depending on weather or if we here a stories about whales in the area or other interesting things for us to explore.

Welcome to the website for Borea Adventures, Iceland, your number one stop for Arctic adventures in high latitudes. We provide great adventures and expeditions in Iceland, Greenland, East Greenland, Jan Mayen and Svalbard (Spitzbergen), mainly using our spacious yacht, the Aurora. Our philosophy is to make our trips as silent as possible where we minimize the use of motorized power and encourage physical activities, whether sea kayaking, climbing, sailing, walking and hiking, wildlife, ski touring and backcountry skiing for beginners, experts and people of all ages. The North Atlantic is our playground and we offer scheduled trips for individuals and groups as well as customized itineraries and charter for groups. We travel in harmony with the wildlife of the area: Arctic Foxes, Birds, Seals, Whales and Polar Bears. Aurora is a sturdy expedition yacht and was raced four times around the globe as part of the Clipper Round the World yacht race under the ownership of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. She gives us a great opportunity to provide Arctic adventures in areas that are hard to reach otherwise. We call her our floating basecamp. Our name is derived from Greek mythology where Boreas was the god of the north wind. Aurora on the other hand was the Roman rosy-fingered goddess of dawn. Aurora Borealis is a name for the Northern lights which are common in our area. As we humans have proven through the decades, names can be hard to remember. Especially if a bit of alcohol gets passed around the galley too many times! You might spell our name Boreal Adventures, Borial Adventures, Borea Adventrues and Borealis Adventures. Thank you for visiting Borea Adventures.
