When this is written, there are no restrictions on travel to Iceland since the country is not considered a high risk area and the Chief Epidemiologist of Iceland thinks putting the country on lockdown will not have the same effect as in many other countries. That of course might change in the coming days and weeks.

Icelandic authorities have taken preventive steps to contain the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus in the country.  As Iceland has few entry points and the lowest population density in Europe, the country has been able to move swiftly to identify, communicate with and, where necessary, quarantine residents of Iceland who have been travelling from high risk areas.

There are strict measures in place and it seems they have everything under control since they started earlier than most nations in putting people into quarantine etc.

Almost all cases of the virus are connected with Icelanders coming from a ski vacation in Italy and Austria and they were put into quarantine right away. Over 1% of the nation has been tested (more tests than any other nation) and only 22 cases found on top of the 170 skiers coming from the Alps. That’s promising and points to that the virus has not spread far. So far there are no known cases here in the Westfjords.

Fortunately for our small business, the spring is usually a quiet time for us. We’re still running the Arctic fox photography workshops but the upcoming ski trips in April and May might be at risk.

For your ease of mind when booking a trip with us, we have made the below updates to our booking conditions if the virus will still be causing problems during the summer:
