Iceland is a land of variable weather and guests should be prepared for that. Dress accordingly and take into account that the weather can change quickly. We’ve written a list for your ease of reference.

One-day Trip List

Kayaking

Less is more when it comes to packing for kayaking trips. There is limited space in the kayaks and we also need to split the food and tents among the group.

For the “Calm Water Kayaking” trip it is enough to come more or less as you stand. However, jeans and cotton is still not good. Some sort of hiking/fleece pants and fleece/wool sweater is fine.

For “Hot Pots and Kayaking with Seals” and “Two Fjords Discovery” trips, bring spare clothes and warm clothes to wear while paddling and a cap. We might supply neoprene pants for you to wear if there is wind or if you have little or no experience. To these two trips delicious lunch that is fit for vegetarians and hot tea is included. All kayaking gear is supplied.

Sample list for longer one-day kayaking trips:

  • Spare clothes.
  • Warm clothes to wear while paddling.
  • A cap.
  • Sunscreen / after sun cream.
  • Swim suit and towel.
    Water bottle.
  • Don’t forget your camera!

Multi-day Trip List

Sea kayaking and hiking trips

  • Thermal underwear, at least two sets of tops.
  • Wool or fleece thermal mid layer.
  • Hiking pants. We recommend no cottons as they take long to dry if wet.
  • Waterproof and breathable pants and jacket for hiking onshore. The lighter – the better.
  • Wool/fleece hat.
  • One pair of gloves.
  • 2 to 3 pairs thick wool/synthetic socks.
  • Light hiking shoes for kayaking trips.
  • Sturdy hiking boots for hiking trips. Make sure they are high up on the ankle for nice support and waterproof.
  • Sleeping bag. Summer rated to at least 0°C. Down is best since it packs better than synthetic.
  • Sleeping mattress. Thin inflatable one is the best as it fits easily inside the boat.
  • Dark sunglasses.
  • Sunscreen / after sun cream.
  • Swim suit and towel.
  • 10-15L backpack for day walks on kayaking trips. Something really light that packs easily. Optional
  • Dry bags for kayaking trips. It’s good to bring some 10-15L drybags for your personal gear. We have some selection of dry bags that you can borrow but it’s best to bring your own that fit your gear perfectly.
  • At least 60L backpack for hiking trips.
  • Binocular is nice to have for watching wildlife.
  • Personal medical kit to include personal medication and i.e. band aids, throat lozenges, lip salves, sea-sickness tablets etc. Don’t forget regular medication you may need (e.g. Asthma, bring your inhaler, even if you do not always need it).
  • Small thermos. Preferably 0.5 liters.
  • 1 litre water bottle.
  • Don’t forget your camera!

Regarding Kayaking Gear

We supply all paddling gear, clothing and shoes if needed. Feel free to bring your own if you have it available. With your personal gear, you are guaranteed that it fits perfectly and is comfortable. We recommend good dry pants with ankle rubber cuffs or 3mm neoprene bibs. Top, preferable with hood and arm rubber cuffs. Full dry suit is for sure best if you have one. Footwear should either be neoprene shoes high up on the ankle with thick soles, or neoprene boots. Neoprene gloves, mittens or poagies to keep the hands warm.

Skiing Trip List

Sample list for multi-day “Kviar Ski Lodge” skiing trips:

  • Skis, boots, poles and skins. Make sure the glue on the skins is good. If wearing new boots, make sure you have tried them out few times to see if the fit properly. Blisters are never fun.
  • Avalanche gear (beacon, shovel and probe) for the backcountry trips. It´s a must to carry all three items. We have few beacons and shovels that you can rent for small fee. Just ask us before leaving home.
  • You DON’T need to bring a sleeping bag. There are made up beds.
  • Thermal underwear, at least two sets of shirts. Wool or synthetic. No cotton!
  • Wool or fleece thermal mid layer, take two thin layers instead of one thick one.
  • Waterproof and breathable pants and jacket.
  • Thermal jacket (down or fiber) optional.
  • Wool / fleece hat.
  • Two pairs of gloves and one pair of mittens.
  • 3 to 4 pairs thick wool / synthetic skiing socks (not too thick).
  • Casual clothes to wear in the evenings.
  • Slippers or crocks to wear inside the house.
  • Soft hiking boots.
  • Soft travel bag (no hard suitcases) that is easy to carry.
  • Dark sun glasses.
  • Sunscreen / after sun cream.
  • Swim suit and towel.
  • Backpack. 30-40L is the right size. Make sure it has ski straps.
  • Personal medical kit to include personal medication and i.e. band aids, throat lozenges, lip salves, sea-sickness tablets etc. Don’t forget regular medication you may need (e.g. Asthma, bring your inhaler, even if you do not always need it).
  • 1 litre water bottle.
  • Small thermos.
  • Don’t forget your camera!
