Powder skiing…

We heard from our friend Jim Gudjonson in Golden, British Columbia that he is enjoying great snow conditions in his mountains. A week of snow cat skiing in the Monashee Mountains in 80 cm of powder….. sounds awesome!  A year and a half ago I was in Golden for a few days skiing at the Kicking Horse Resort and a day of heli skiing in the Purcell Mountains. This whole area is really an amazing playground.

Jim was skiing with us last spring and is bringing another group for May 2007 for some spring skiing in Jokulfirdir and Hornstrandir.

We don’t have 80cm of powder in Isafjordur now, but today was an absolutely beautiful day – cold, clear and yes… with perhaps 15-20cm of powder.

In a few days time we have the shortest day of the year and the sun is really low on the horizon. We can barely see small patches of sun on the mountain tops but the valleys are in a two month shadow.

Here are a couple of pictures, one showing a view from one of the ski lifts at around 2pm and the other shows Bjork and Asdis snowboarding in the fresh snow.
