Itinerary

We meet up at our office in Aðalstræti 17 (downtown main street) at 10:00 A.M and walk to our gear storage nearby.

We will get you fitted with the right equipment for the day and then make a short drive to our starting point. We have few options for the day and we try to choose the best option demanding on conditions. Our favourite starting point is in the head of Sugandafjörður Fjord that we can reach by driving though the Westfjords Tunnel.

We usually start the day with a short introduction in avalanche safety and awareness. We’ll teach you the basic on how to behave in avalanche terrain and how to use the avalanche safety gear we’ll hand to you.

From there we can buckle up and skin up to the nearby ridges and peaks for panoramic view and great skiing. Mt. Kistufell is definitely an option, where we get a good view over the Peaks of Thieves and the nearby fjords. The folklore tells that a chest full of gems and gold is hidden under the peaks. We have many options to ski down from the top. Some descents are pretty easy and other are steeper and more challenging.

We will find the best and most fun way to ski down for the group. With tired muscles and hopefully nice photos, we will return back to Ísafjörður.

FAQ

Map

We had a custom 4 day ski touring/guided trip based out of Isafjordur. Our guide was a local and very knowledgeable about the area and skilled in backcountry skiing/avalanche safety. Given the variability of snow conditions, he had scouted out the potential hills for us to climb prior to our arrival to 1) ensure our safety, 2) provide amazing views and 3) have a fun ski down. He knew the mountains and local lore well which made the trip more fun. He sustained a minor injury during one of our ski days , and Borea had another guide available to continue our day within 1.5 hours of the call. We appreciated their flexibility and coverage by their team during the entire trip. The trip exceeded our expectations and we would recommend Borea for winter adventures and hope to come back for some summer adventures in Isafjordur soon!
